Hockey Fights Cancer™

Hockey Fights Cancer was founded in 1998 as a joint initiative between the National Hockey League (NHL) and the National Hockey League Players' Association (NHLPA). This remarkable initiative has raised over $32 million since its inception and been at the forefront of raising awareness and supporting those affected by cancer, touching the lives of millions.

For the past 26 years the NHL and the NHLPA have united players, teams, coaches, broadcasters, caregivers, doctors, nurses, patients, survivors, and fans behind the powerful Hockey Fights Cancer initiative at the national level through the NHL and NHLPA, and hyper- local level across the 32 NHL teams. Each season, every team hosts their own Hockey Fights Cancer night, and celebrates their hockey/cancer community locally, typically in November -- Hockey Fights Cancer month.

Funds raised through Hockey Fights Cancer™ in partnership the American Cancer Society (ACS) support people affected by cancer, their families, and caregivers through ACS patient programs and support. Some of the many ways include:

  • Lodging – American Cancer Society Hope Lodge® communities offer a home away from home for people facing cancer and their caregivers when cancer treatment is far away. Our 30+ Hope Lodge communities across the country provide a free place to stay during treatment so people with cancer can focus on getting better. Hope Lodge guests don’t just find a place to stay – they find a community of support and an emotional connection with others facing the same journey.

  • Transportation – The American Cancer Society Road To Recovery® program eases your burden by giving free rides to cancer-related medical appointments. Our trained volunteer drivers are happy to pick you up, take you to your appointment, and drop you off at home. All for free and all to make your days a little easier. Not having a ride shouldn’t stand between you and lifesaving treatment.

  • Round the Clock Support – Our 24/7 cancer helpline provides support for people dealing with cancer. We can connect you with trained cancer information specialists who will answer questions about a cancer diagnosis and provide guidance and a compassionate ear.

HFC Assist

Hockey Fights Cancer™ Assist (HFC Assist) unites the hockey community in support of cancer patients and their families. HFC Assist allows youth and local hockey teams across the country to fundraise and support Hockey Fights Cancer™ just like their favorite NHL teams and players. November through April, teams can earn exclusive rewards by hosting their very own Hockey Fights Cancer™ game.

  • Register your team today to show your commitment in the fight against cancer.
  • Designate a home game as your HFC Assist game.
