As a Senior Scientist of Health Services Research in the Surveillance & Health Equity Science (SHES) Department, Jingxuan Zhao, PhD, MPH, collaborates with researchers both within and outside the American Cancer Society (ACS) to conduct research examining inequities in access to cancer care and patient outcomes associated with health-related social needs, social determinants of health, and health insurance coverage.
She holds adjunct faculty positions in the Department of Health Policy and Management at Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health.
Zhao's research spans a broad spectrum of topics focused on cancer inequities, with particular interest in the effect of incarceration on cancer care and outcomes. She has led multiple studies examining incarceration and access to cancer care and outcomes, such as receipt of cancer screenings and cancer mortality, at individual, family, and community levels.
Her work also examines health insurance disparities, including the effects of provisions of the Affordable Care Act and the growing inequities after the introduction of new high-costs therapies.
In addition, she actively collaborates with colleagues on topics on economic burden and financial hardship among cancer survivors.
Zhao has received various awards for her research, including the ASCO Conquer Cancer Merit Award from the ASCO annual meeting and the ASCO Quality Care Symposium.
