I never lose sight of the fact that most people are affected by cancer in some way—personally, as a caregiver to a family member or friend, or from losing someone they love. As a scientist, I am dedicated to helping them by designing and conducting research that can be used to support health policies that can improve cancer survival and better ensure that patients and their families can maximize quality of life.”
Xuesong Han, PhD, is the Scientific Director of Health Services Research in the Surveillance & Health Equity Science department of the American Cancer Society (ACS). She leads cancer disparities research related to health insurance coverage and aspects of the Affordable Care Act.
Han’s research examines disparities in cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and survival associated with health insurance and socioeconomic status. She also studies the changes that can result from implementing new healthcare policies.
She also collaborates on cancer survivorship research studies, addressing economic burden, financial hardship, employment changes, psychosocial distress, and health-related quality of life.
Han holds adjunct faculty appointments at the Rollins School of Public Health and the Winship Cancer Institute, Emory University.
