What Inspired Me to Study Cancer

I grew interested in cancer research after studying epigenetics in my undergraduate psychology classes. I became aware of the complexity of cancer as well as its prevalence throughout the population, and that inspired me to pursue a career that would help work toward a solution.”

At ACS since 2021

As an Assistant Scientist in Study Management, Olivia Dunlap, BS, oversees the approvals and agreements with state cancer registries and Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) for American Cancer Society (ACS) Population Science cohort studies.

Dunlap also helps Senior Scientist Anusila Deka, MPH, coordinate data linkages for receiving cancer outcome data and verify cancer diagnoses among participants in the ACS Cancer Prevention Studies, CPS-II and CPS-3.

Research focus and accomplishments

I joined ACS in October 2021, and I am excited to continue learning about the processes that go into maintaining large cohort studies and the impact that they have on public health in the United States, specifically in minority and under-served communities.
