Participate in the American Cancer Society Great American Health Challenge today at www.cancer.org/GreatAmericans.
Passage of the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act, which would give the Food and Drug Administration regulatory authority over tobacco products, is closer to becoming a reality thanks to the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), the Society’s separate nonprofit, nonpartisan advocacy partner. ACS CAN is asking Congress to pass this critical public health legislation. For current, accurate statistics about cancer worldwide, health care professionals, volunteers and news media now turn to the Society's first-ever Global Cancer Facts & Figures 2007—the only source providing current-year estimates on global cancer incidence and mortality. Thanks in part to advocacy and cancer education efforts by the Society and ACS CAN, more Americans than ever are being tested for colon cancer, and more than half of the U.S. population is now covered by some form of colon cancer screening coverage law. More of the medically underserved now have improved access to our services and programs thanks to newly launched American Cancer Society Patient Navigator Program sites in 84 hospitals and cancer centers across the country.* *Program availability may vary according to geographical location.
